Why Heart Rate Variability Training?
(HRV Training)

The heart is now known scientifically (as it has long been known poetically) to be a source of empowerment, wisdom, and intelligence. Our heart beat patterns carry and inform the states with which we meet and respond to the world whether that is fear and anger or appreciation and love. Heart Rate Variability Training (HRV) helps decode these patterns and teaches us how we can generate the positive emotional states, or coherence, in which most of us would prefer to live.
HRV biofeedback training helps our heart, breath and nervous system function synergistically. This in turn reduces stress, fosters greater health and well-being and helps fine tune performance in all areas of our lives.

So what?

Much of the way we approach the world is, and some of the way that the world responds back, is affected by the emotional, psychological state we are in. If we are in the state of anxiety, resentment, anger, doubt, defeat, hopelessness, insecurity we will then to respond or react to situations one way. If we are in a state of appreciation, gratitude, acceptance we may respond with more heart, flexibility, ingenuity, effectiveness.

Why?

In our evolution a more primitive life form through our nervous system has evolved in a hierarchy of systems. In the moment we can tap the highest potentials of our highest system or regress to much lower systems. When a person is operating out of his or her 'fight - flight' system. He/she will react using a system which was designed millions of years ago for basic 'survival' in a primitive world. As a per

What is Heart Rate Variability?

Heart rate variability indicates the beat to beat change in the heart rate. Two people can have the same heart rate (say 65 beats per minute). One person can have low variance. This is a sign of stress and will fatigue the heart and compromise the nervous system. Another person with high variance will have a heart which is more rested and nervous system which is calmer and more effective.

How does Heart Rate Variability Training Work?

Your heart rhythm is read and projected onto a computer screen through biofeedback. On the screen you watch and hear your heart as it moves through various patterns. You quickly discover how your thoughts, images, breathing patterns, body tension and even your words to yourself affect your heart's rhythm. Through practice you learn to affect and create the rhythms you desire.

How long does it take to create change?

Children as young as 8 years old can learn to bring themselves into states of high coherence within 10 to 15 minutes of a first session. More often the speed of results depends upon a person's external life situations and psychological make-up. Learning to engender higher coherence states during significantly challenging situations requires dedicated practice.

Does HRV biofeedback training really work?

Biofeedback is a discipline like exercise. Just as people who work out intelligently become stronger, healthier and fit, people who use biofeedback regularly are empowered by the information it provides to make distinctions and learn that they have choices in any situation.
